Attend Labor Notes!

Hi comrades,

🔥The labor movement is heating up!🔥

Are you excited and inspired by the recent Starbucks strikes? The 8500 person Amazon warehouse in Staten Island unionizing?  The Verizon and Apple store workers fighting to unionize?

Do you want to learn more about the labor movement, learn new organizing skills, and engage in the dynamic discussions about the way forward for the labor movement and the role of socialists? Do you want to meet and learn from the experiences of other DSA members and militant sections of the labor movement?

Do you want to help build the labor movement and DSA in Seattle?

Then you should go to Labor Notes in Chicago, June 17-19! https://labornotes.org/2022

Please fill out this Google Form if you’re interested!

Labor Notes is an annual conference that brings together some of the most militant sections of the labor movement, socialists, and other radicalizing people to discuss the state of the labor movement, to learn from current struggles and labor history, and to network with people from across the country engaged in the labor movement.

This year’s conference promises to be electrifying.  Starbucks baristas and Amazon warehouse workers are leading a revitalization of the labor movement that is spreading like wildfire and inspiring workers. Workers and activists from these struggles will be at the conference, along with DSA members from across the country. This is an important opportunity to engage with and learn from fresh radicalizing layers of the labor movement and the working class and seasoned organizers.  It will also be a space to discuss with DSA members about their experiences and how they, as socialists, are engaging in these struggles. Labor Notes is where we can develop our skills and a better understanding of the labor movement and the challenges it faces.

Seattle has a special role to play in the revitalization of the labor movement. We are the home to Starbucks and Amazon.  Because of this, we can have an out-sized impact.  Starbucks workers across the country were inspired by the Starbucks workers strikes - in the belly of the beast - and the Seattle Roastery voting to unionize. And SDSA played an important role in supporting the workers and developing community support. The more DSA members we can send to Labor Notes, the more we can bring back the lessons and skills to Seattle to better assist workers in their struggles, to better build community support, and to better build DSA.

If you are interested please fill out this Google form.  The early bird special registration is $130 and ends soon on May 1st, when it will go up to $175.  The Local Council approved paying for up to 10 SDSA members’ (or Starbucks workers’) early bird registration fees.  So please indicate before 5/1 if you want to attend and if you need assistance.

Not all members can afford to attend.  The DSA Labor Working Group wants to send a large delegation of Seattle comrades and Starbucks workers to this historic conference. To offset costs for members who can’t afford to attend we are fundraising to raise $5,000. We want to have an impact on revitalizing the labor movement, but we need help.

Can you donate $27, $50, $100, or $1000 to help send DSA members and hopefully Starbucks workers to Labor Notes? (When you donate please type “Labor Notes” in the Note box)

In solidarity,

Bryan Watson
