APRIL 2022 NEWSLETTER 📰

Hi John,

Grace here! I’m the Communications Specialist here at Immigrants Rising. From maintaining our website to sharing updates and resources on our social media, chances are, you’ve probably seen something that I worked on.

I’m super excited to share something with you that I’ve been working on since I joined the Immigrants Rising team in 2018. Over the past four years, I have maintained our list of scholarships and fellowships—ensuring that the opportunities on it are legitimate, open to students without status, and accessible across the U.S.

I’m proud to announce that our team has revamped the list this year, making it more accessible than ever before for undocumented students in pursuit of education.

Be sure to check it out and share it with those who you think will benefit from our list. And check out some of the recent highlights of our work below.

Onwards!

A Focus on the Black Undocumented Experience

This year, our Catalyst team worked with our Higher Education Program Participants to create a resource focused on how institutions can best support Black undocumented students. Through the resource that Shirleen and Eva, two undocumented Black women, have crafted, I’ve learned a lot about the inequities that they face in their pursuit of higher education, but it’s also inspired me to work together to bridge the gap.

👩🏿‍🏫 And ICYMI: Here is the webinar presentation that our program participants Shirleen and Eva hosted last Tuesday.

We’re also doing our part to better serve Black undocumented immigrants. One way is to provide a sense of community through our wellness support groups.

We’re bringing back our Black undocumented wellness support group to maintain our commitment to supporting Black undocumented immigrants.

It’s free, and you can join us from anywhere. Find your community in this safe space that we’re excited to create.

The Spark Stories: A Series

Preview of Spark Stories Episodes
Over the past year, we’ve had the pleasure of working with Armando Ibañez, an undocumented filmmaker, to capture stories from our SEED grant recipients. These seven undocumented entrepreneurs show that you don’t need to be the next Steve Jobs to become an entrepreneur: you, your #UndocuHustle, and your spark are enough!

Get inspired and watch our Spark Stories on our YouTube channel.

Hey, are you following us on the socials?

We’re always looking for ways to connect with our community—whether you’re an undocumented millennial weighing whether entrepreneurship is the right path for you (more likely than not, yes) or one of our champion educators fighting tooth and nail for your students, we want to connect with you.
