As one of the founders of Common Dreams, I've been here from the very
beginning.
I've seen a lot in those years, including hard-fought victories and
bitter disappointments, and we've seen countless other digital news
sites come and go.
And in all those years, I can tell you that there's never been a more
difficult time for independent online journalism than right now.
Tech giants like Facebook and Google are exerting more and more control
over the flow of traffic on the internet, and these corporate giants are
making it increasingly difficult for new readers to find us by tweaking
their algorithms and prioritizing corporate outlets in their news feeds
and search results.
Meanwhile, the pandemic has driven up our costs and created
once-in-a-lifetime challenges for journalism that we never anticipated.
Our ace in the hole has always been you, our readers. But I can't
remember a time since the very earliest days of our founding that our
future survival was in doubt the way it is now.
That's why I'm making a personal appeal to you now to donate to our

can continue to deliver progressive journalism in order to inform,
