Next Week: Check your Mailbox for your California Primary Ballot!

The June 7 California Primary Election is right around the corner. Every registered California voter will receive a mail-in ballot as soon as next week! With most seats in the Legislature up for election, and a big uptick in turnover expected due in part to redistricting, this is an incredible opportunity to fill the halls of Sacramento with climate champions intent on passing bold policy. Check out our Election Guide to get all the resources you need to be ready to vote.

Q&A with Assemblymember and Democracy Champion Mike Fong

Since taking office in February, Assemblymember Mike Fong has been leading the charge to make our democracy more inclusive and representative. On the eve of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, EnviroVoters spoke with him about how to ensure representation better reflects race and ethnic background. “Government works best when it functions in active conversation with the people it represents,” he said.

Badass In Green Awards: Watch our Honorees

This evening, we are hosting our annual Badass In Green Awards to celebrate leaders and innovators in the climate justice movement. Watch our videos of our honorees — including environmental rights activist Genesis Butler, Southern California Edison executive Caroline Choi, and Northern Chumash Tribal Council Chairwoman Violet Sage Walker — who are all working to solve the climate crisis and lead the fight for the future.

Let’s Make a Down Payment on our Future and Double Down on Climate

EnviroVoters is asking California leaders to make a down payment on climate to protect our future. Governor Newsom’s budget proposal included $37.6 billion toward climate over the next five years, a number that is historic but not nearly enough to tackle the crisis. It’s too late for incremental change. So we’re pushing Sacramento to double down and invest $75 billion over the next five years (just 5% of the budget) on climate to meet this moment. With a record surplus, California has a rare opportunity to not only stabilize our climate future but also show the world what bold climate action looks like.

CA's Voter Participation Gap for Youth and People of Color Persists

Youth and people of color continue to be underrepresented in our electorate. Despite historically high voter turnout overall in the November 2020 election, the turnout rate for eligible 18- to 24-year-olds in California was 20 percentage points lower than the population’s overall. The turnout rate for eligible Asian American, Black, and Latino Californians was between 11 and 20 points lower. EnviroVoters is trying to close the participation gap by investing in better voter education and outreach. If you haven’t already, add your signature for a more inclusive democracy.
