Dear neighbor:
This week was a busy one. Before flying to Washington, I was pleased to present a $1 million check to the City of Torrance for its new Homelessness Response Project. This was one of the community funding projects I fought for and secured in our annual spending measure. The funding will be used to support the City’s temporary housing program and make critical improvements to existing homeless programs. I will continue fighting to ensure CA-33 receives the federal funding it needs to tackle this persistent challenge.
I was also honored to participate in the groundbreaking ceremony for the Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing this past Earth Day. Wildlife crossings help us protect wild animals that are critical to our local ecosystems and help keep human drivers and pedestrians safe too. When finished, this will be the largest animal crossing in the world and is critically important to save LA cougars and other wildlife.
Here are some of the other items I’ve been working on this week:
- Introduced legislation to require the Attorney General to notify the Department of Justice Inspector General if Members of Congress or judicial branch records are seized.
- Participated in a Judiciary Committee hearing on Supreme Court ethics.
- Voted in favor of legislation to further support Ukraine, including legislation to help the U.S. send weapons and supplies to Ukraine more efficiently; and to seize and sell assets of Putin’s cronies to help Ukraine.
- Participated in a Judiciary Committee hearing with Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas and asked about comprehensive immigration reform.
