On Friday, April 8th, thousands of People For Members and allies gathered in person at the Supreme Court and online to celebrate the historic confirmation of Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson. Confirmed by a bipartisan vote of 53-47, Judge Jackson is one of the most qualified and well-liked nominees in modern history.

At People For, we know this confirmation was the result of a hard-fought campaign to combat the Far Right’s baseless attacks, and this victory is shared by all of you. Thousands of People For members called, emailed, signed petitions and more to advocate for the future Justice Jackson and thanks to your tireless efforts, we did it!

We Need Your Help

There’s a very real chance that far-right proponents of the "Big Lie" seize control of one or both chambers of Congress next year – which would likely mean an end to any congressional efforts to seek accountability for the seditious conspiracy that led to the attempted insurrection of last January 6.

People For is currently planning a multi-pronged, nationwide campaign to prevent this outcome -- including events, videos, activist briefings, and volunteer mobilization in order to maximize the impact of the upcoming January 6 hearings on this fall’s elections. But as our end-of-month deadline approaches, we’re still short of the resources we need to do this work. So please chip in a generous renewal donation today to help us get the truth out! >>

Most people across America recoiled with disgust when they saw Senate Republicans’ horrific mistreatment of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson. But their base loved it. So a month later, those senators were at it again, at a confirmation hearing for Eleventh Circuit nominee Nancy Abudu. Far-right senators at the hearing – like Josh Hawley, Ted Cruz, and Marsha Blackburn –didn’t want to talk about her qualifications. They didn’t want to talk about the outpouring of support she has received for her nomination. And they certainly didn’t want to talk about eliminating racial injustice.

Across the nation, far-right politicians have been attacking K-12 school curricula and deliberately distorting and lying about what is being taught in our classrooms. Through their attempts to sow fear and mistrust in our schools, far-right politicians are seeking to mislead voters in order to win elections this fall. Lacking any real agenda to offer voters, far-right politicians are choosing instead to revive the culture wars – zeroing in on teaching about Black history and the LGBTQ community in our classrooms.

But protecting the Freedom to Learn is fundamental to the American Way – and it’s why People For has joined with partners in fighting back against these attacks, starting in Virginia, where assaults on K-12 curricula were a driving force in the 2021 elections.

We keep learning more about the attack on the U.S. Capitol and the efforts by Trump and his team of overzealous supporters to keep him in power. Shockingly we even learned that Ginni Thomas, wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, may have played a role in organizing the January 6 rally that led up to the insurrection. It also just so happens that Justice Clarence Thomas was the only Supreme Court justice who backed Trump’s attempt to keep White House records from being shared with the Jan. 6 committee. It was an 8-1 vote. We can’t make Clarence Thomas act honorably. But that doesn’t mean we are powerless to protect our democracy.

Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson made history when the U.S. Senate confirmed her nomination as a U.S. Supreme Court Justice. The confirmation process, however, showed us something else. Something far more disturbing about the current state of the union. The far-right wing of the conservative movement, which is currently the dominant force in the Republican Party, set out to smear Judge Jackson and anyone – Republican or Democrat – who supported her. They made it clear why we cannot allow them to take power in this year’s elections.
