I Wasn’t Ready To Parent My Parent
[[link removed]]
Alice Seuffert was on a road trip with her kids to see the Grand Canyon when she
got one of those calls everybody dreads: her father had had a stroke. “I was so
comfortable in my role as a mother, I forgot I was also a child in this world.
Gone were the days when I hung onto every word and action of my father. I was a
busy mom, occupied with my own family, I’d often let the calls and texts from my
dad go unanswered,” she writes.

But as she walked into his hospital room, she realized she had something
valuable to help her through a tough period: mom mode.

“If you are or ever have been a mom of tweens, you know the struggle is real:
Their bodies are changing and they’re asserting their independence, but you’ve
still got to help them out, whether they want it or not. The result, in my house
at least, is chaos,” writes Natasha McKee. Here’s what worked for her.
