Here’s why we have to take these elections seriously

Maura Healey for Governor

A lot of the time, when people talk about elections and government they’re focused on the federal level. Senate campaigns and presidential races get a bunch of media attention and grassroots donors across the country rush donations to them. Now, don’t get me wrong:

These races are important, but they’re not the only ones we should be paying attention to.

I’m going to explain why our race for Governor is just as important and why I need you on our team – but if I already have your support, please chip in $10 here:

Across the country, we’re witnessing the powerful impact that governors have on their states – and why we have to take these elections seriously.

Governors like Ron DeSantis in Florida and Greg Abbott in Texas are signing laws that target LGBTQ+ youth, roll back our reproductive freedom, and infringe on voting rights. They’re using their power to push their conservative agendas and backtrack on the progress our country has made.

These proposed bills aren’t unique to Texas and Florida. Copycat versions are popping up all over the country – and governors are the last line of defense. As the People’s Lawyer, we worked together to block attempts to restrict the freedom to vote, protect abortion access, and stand in support of our LGBTQ+ youth.

The problem is, these kinds of attacks aren’t slowing down. Our next governor will have to face these challenges head-on. I know that together, we’re up to the task – but first we have to win this race.

We have to drum up the kind of support you see during a presidential election year, and we’ve got to reach voters all across the state to do it. That means getting out into communities, sending out thousands of mail pieces, and knocking on thousands of doors.

Every dollar you chip in helps us cover these costs and build a winning campaign. If you believe this race is important, will you chip in $10 now?

Thanks so much,

Maura
