I was with Kara yesterday when we got the breaking news: New York's highest court rejected the district maps we've been campaigning on for months.
NY-01 is getting another new map AND our primary is likely moving to August.
John, there's a lot we still don't know about how this impacts our campaign. What I do know is that we're going to have to recalibrate quickly when the new district lines are set, which makes April's end-of-month fundraising deadline even more important. We're raising our goal to $22,000 so we can face these new challenges head-on.
The reality is, we've known since Day One that this campaign cycle was going to throw us some curveballs. With an open seat and a high-stakes redistricting process taking place, we've had to build a plan to win under countless scenarios. That's why we've been laser-focused on growing a grassroots network of support. Because when things shift — we won't be relying on corporate donors or D.C. special interest groups — we'll continue to be fueled by grassroots supporters who are committed to securing progress for their community.
We're going to have to wait a little bit longer to know exactly what our next steps are, whether it's needing to re-petition to get on the ballot or run a voter education program to overcome confusion about these changes. There's a lot of work ahead, but the number one thing you can do right now to help flip this seat is make sure we have the resources to be agile in the weeks and months ahead.
