Dear John,
For more than 40 years, the Wabanaki Nations have been excluded from Federal Indian laws that benefit other federally-recognized tribes in the U.S. This includes more than 150 laws meant to improve public health, respond to natural disasters, promote economic development, protect the environment, and more. Right now, Congress is considering a bill, HR 6707, that would help fix this decades-long inequity by extending future Federal Indian laws to the Wabanaki Nations. HR 6707 is supported by all of the Wabanaki Nations and was introduced by Rep. Jared Golden and cosponsored by Rep. Chellie Pingree. Congress’ Natural Resources Committee will decide soon whether to advance this bill — and they need to hear from you! Please take a few minutes and send a letter to the committee by the deadline, this Saturday, April 30. |
