Friend, did you know that Texas ranks among the lowest in the country for female representation in local government?

The Center for American Women and Politics found that in Texas, less than 30% of municipal offices are held by women, ranking us in the bottom third of the nation. In 2022, this statistic is unacceptable. Women deserve an equal place at the table at every level of leadership in our state.

Friend, electing more women at the local level isn’t just important for representation. Because of our shared lived experience, women are fighting for the policies that will make the biggest difference to us. With issues like abortion access, paid family leave, and pay equity at stake in Texas, female leadership is more important than ever.

Right now, we have the opportunity to put a serious dent in our state’s lack of female representation in local government. Early voting is underway for the May 7th local elections, meaning we can elect women leaders to serve our communities on our school boards, city councils, and more.

Friend, every election counts, and we’re not wasting any opportunity to elect new faces and new voices to lead our communities. So will you rush a $7 contribution before our critical end-of-month deadline to close the gap and allow progressive Texas women to take the reins?

Electing more women is key to building a democracy that is truly representative of the people it governs. While our serious lack of female representation may seem bleak, every woman elected to leadership opens a door for another to follow in her footsteps.

With your help, we’re making strides.

In solidarity,
