Hi —
Lately it feels like we’re battling nonstop far-right attempts to block environmental progress and our right to vote.
We’re fighting over a dozen anti-environmental bills at the moment that would undercut state environmental agencies’ oversight of drilling and give polluters even more power to rewrite the rules to benefit their bottom lines. On top of that, attacks on voting are heating up, from bills to make ballot dropboxes illegal to an expensive and unnecessary sham ballot review designed to undermine faith in our voting systems.
Pro-polluting, anti-democratic lawmakers have shown no signs of letting up. All this while the planet is warming faster than we ever feared.
Even against all these attacks, we can still win. We managed to block EVERY attempt to prevent Pennsylvania from joining the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), a commonsense carbon reduction program that invests millions of dollars back into our public health. Getting the new RGGI rule published has been a tremendous victory in this years-long fight, and it couldn’t have happened without people like you stepping up and speaking out.
But we have more work to do to see RGGI and our 21st century green economy through the finish line. Will you pitch in $5, $10, $25 or more today so that we can keep up our efforts to make RGGI a reality? Our goal is to raise $3,000 by the end of the month, and we can’t do this without you >> [[link removed]]
If we’re going to reduce our carbon emissions in the very small window that’s left to stave off the catastrophic rise in global temperatures, we need to address carbon pollution by getting Pennsylvania to join RGGI ASAP and by blocking attempts to make it easier to pollute our state . But there are some serious attacks coming from our state leaders that we can’t ignore:
– There are at least seven state legislative proposals that would take advantage of the crisis in Ukraine by calling for unfettered fracking, pipeline expansion, and looser drilling oversight — all to line the pockets of the oil and gas industry
– We expect repeated attempts from anti-environmental politicians to let big polluters operate unchecked while continuing to find ways to give them massive tax breaks.
– Extremists are still trying to push multiple assaults on our right to vote — ranging from attacks on dropboxes and court cases against vote-by-mail, to pushing for more restrictive voter ID requirements at the polls and countless expensive attempts at a sham ballot review.
We’re up against anti-environmental and anti-democracy forces in Harrisburg that will do whatever it takes to hold onto their power. We’re prepared to go toe-to-toe with these forces and anyone else who stands in the way of bold climate action, but we need to scale up our advocacy efforts big time.
Will you help us hit our $3,000 goal by the end of the month so that we can keep fighting for RGGI while meeting these other challenges? CHIP IN TODAY >> [[link removed]]
Friend, I know it can be frustrating and disheartening to see hyper-partisan lawmakers continue to attack our environment and democracy. But looking at the work we’ve done, it’s inspiring to see the recent victory that allows Pennsylvania to finally join RGGI — and I’m excited to continue this important work with you on our side.
Thanks for all that you do.
