It’s been awhile and I wanted to say hi! I’m Emily, founder of New Politics and passionate advocate for servant leadership.
We all know this coming election is a big one. The work we’re doing at New Politics is critical, and I’ve been busy going everywhere I can talking to people about our mission to put servant leaders (think former military and organizations like AmeriCorps) in office up and down the ballot.
Earlier this month, I was on Future Hindsight, a podcast that focuses on our roles in democracy and civic life hosted by Mina Altos. You can listen to my interview here, I think you’ll like it.

The idea is simple: former service members make transformational leaders. Why?
- They know what it means to put politics aside and serve their community
-
They have the courage to tell the truth and do what is right, even when it’s not popular
-
They know how to collaborate with people from all different backgrounds
- They know how to just dive in and GET THINGS DONE
When my time serving with AmeriCorps came to an end, I was struck by the lack of support for military and national service alumni looking to re-enter public service. It’s an obvious fit! I became obsessed with the idea of the transformational impact they could have if elected.
So I started New Politics.
And as an organization, we are building a movement to revitalize democracy itself by recruiting, supporting, and electing servant leaders, from school boards to the halls of Congress, who have the courage to put politics aside and get things done.
We’re going to need your help, and I can’t wait to tell you more about how we find, support, and elect so many incredible former service members. But right now there are a few things you can do to help us get going before our next wave of endorsements.

New Politics
Founder & Executive Director
We support outstanding military veterans and national service leaders, alumni of programs like AmeriCorps and the Peace Corps, to step up and serve our country again, this time through politics. We were proud to be behind the movement of veterans who ran for office for the first time in 2018, and we have big plans to grow into the future.
