Hosted by Main Street Pendleton, the focus for this workshop is historic preservation. Learn about Pendleton's historic district and how it interacts with Main Street. You will also hear how the community dealt with the aftermath of a tornado that struck the historic district on Memorial Day, 2019. Finally, learn some tips on being prepared for a disaster before it hits. You also don't want to miss the welcome from *Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch*.

The cost is $30 to attend and the fee includes lunch and snacks. Attendance at these workshops meets the annual training requirement for Indiana Main Street organizations.

Shop Small
Small Business Saturday is right around the corner

Small Business Saturday is more than a day to shop. Its a nationwide movement that shines a spotlight on the importance of supporting small businesses in communities across America, and Main Streeters are some of its biggest and best champions.

American Express founded Small Business Saturday in response to small business owners most pressing need: more customers. According to the 2017 Small Business Saturday Consumer Insights Survey [ [link removed] ], an estimated 108 million consumers reported shopping or dining at local independently-owned businesses the Saturday after Thanksgiving. This years Small Business Saturday takes place on November 30. Over the years, Small Business Saturday spending has reached a reported estimate of $103 billion since it began in 2010 that's $103 billion over nine days alone.

Get out and shop or dine at a local small business, invite friends to shop with you, find a new spot online, or share on your social networks where you #ShopSmall.

Congratulations to Franklin for winning Best of Indiana!

On November 4,Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch and the Indiana Office of Tourism Development (IOTD) announced the winners for the 2019 Best of Indiana people's choice campaign.

The winners are:


* Best Brewery: Bad Dad Brewing Co. Fairmount, Grant County
* Best Hiking Trail: The Ladders Trail (Trail 3) at Turkey Run State Park Parke County
* Best Main Street: Franklin Johnson County

IOTD enlisted the help of the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA), which oversees Indianas Main Street program, to select a list of towns and cities offering the ideal Main Street destinations. All of the top 10 are part of OCRAs Main Street program. Voters selected *Franklin* in Johnson County as having the best Main Street in Indiana. Franklin has made significant changes to its downtown over the past few years. Officials said this has brought numerous new businesses to the downtown area, including restaurants and shops. Franklin is considered a walkable downtown that results in more activities and festivals on the square. Victorian mansions line King and Jefferson streets, giving it that quaint hometown feel.

Located along the Ohio River, *Madison *in Jefferson County was voted number two in the main street voting. Madison is known for its historic buildings, rich history, unique businesses and shops, and its beautiful scenery, parks, and recreational activities. Madisons Main Street program was one of the first nationally accredited main street programs in the country.

Downtown* Angola* rounds the list at number three. The main feature of its downtown is the New England style public square with the Soldiers Monument at its center. Angola has also invested heavily in quality of place initiatives, like their Art Alley, Brohaw theater renovation and large events, like Cruise to the Monument car show. Business are also flocking downtown with 11 joining last year, to bring the total to 141.

Apply for the IDEM recycle grant program

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management announced the availability of grant funding for recycling, organics, and household hazardous waste collection from the Community Recycling Grant Program. Eligible candidates may seek grants ranging from $500 to $50,000. Applications are being accepted through December 20, 2019.

Projects requesting funding should focus on education and promotion of recycling, processing of recyclable materials, waste reduction and organics management. Funding will be announced in February 2020. *Click here* [ [link removed] ] to learn more and apply.

New Faade Grant Program through National Main Street

Main Street America is pleased to announce the*Main Street Facade Improvement Grant Program* [ [link removed] ] made possible by a $746,900 grant from the Historic Revitalization Subgrant Program, as administered by the National Park Service.

The Main Street Facade Improvement Grant Program will demonstrate the power of coordinated, small-scale faade improvements on local economies. By reinvigorating the image of 12 downtowns, the program will also aim to attract private investment.
