** The Global Biodiversity Framework Must Incorporate and Operationalize Human and Indigenous Rights

On March 14-29, 2022, the Convention on Biological Diversity’s (CBD) resumed meetings in Geneva, Switzerland, convening a wide array of governments, intergovernmental agencies, non-governmental organizations, Indigenous Peoples and organizations, women, and youth, among others. ** Earth Day is Every Day!

Since 1970, every year on April 22 people across the globe join together to celebrate Mother Earth. In 2009, the UN General Assembly proclaimed April 22 as International Mother Earth Day. ** Indigenous Peoples Take Over Brasilia Demanding Security and Freedom

More than 5,000 Indigenous people representing 300 Peoples in Brazil gathered during the week of April 10-14, 2022, to hold the 18th Acampamento Terra Livre (ATL - Free Land Camp) in Brasília, Brazil, to defend their rights. Every year the event becomes more representative of the Indigenous rights and social justice movements, as it gathers leaders of Indigenous Peoples and civil society with popular movements such as the Landless People's Movement, environmentalists, and other sectors. ** Towards an Equitable Recovery: Cultural Survival Supports Indigenous Led Responses to COVID-19

Thanks to a grant from MacArthur Foundation’s Equitable Recovery Initiative, in 2021 and early 2022, Cultural Survival supported 40+ Indigenous artists and distributed 15 grants totaling $78,000 through our Indigenous Community Media Fund to 15 Indigenous community radio stations across Mexico, Nigeria, India, and the United States. ** World Health Day: The Role of Indigenous Peoples in Protecting the Planet and Biodiversity

** Advocating for the Inclusion of Indigenous Peoples’ Rights in European Due Diligence Laws

In March of 2022, Cultural Survival’s Executive Director Galina Angarova (Buryat) and Director of Programs Avexnim Cojti (Maya K’iche’) traveled to Brussels, Belgium, to meet with Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), environmental and civil society groups engaged in advocacy efforts around the new European Union (EU) battery regulation (original text) and the proposed horizontal due diligence law.
