Volunteer Spotlight

Our team of more than 25,000 volunteers across the country makes the work we do at NextGen possible. Hear from one of these incredible volunteers, Mitchell C., on why he’s involved with NextGen:

Mitchell C., he/him: "I joined back in February of this year to try and encourage people to vote and get to the polls. I especially wanted to encourage young voters as we have the power to chance and influence our current political climate. NextGen America has helped give me the tools and opportunity to do just that!"

Ready to join Mitchell and thousands of others in the fight for a future that represents us? Sign up to volunteer with us: [link removed]

GOTV Recap

We’re speeding toward the midterm elections here at NextGen as we participate in GOTV for primaries across the country.

As we prepare for upcoming elections, we’d like to take a look back at what our incredible team of organizers, activists, and volunteers accomplished for the 2022 Texas primary election. Together, we:

- Contacted a total of 2,259,081 young voters in Texas through texts, calls, and in-person contacts throughout February

- Hosted nearly 50 events across the state from the start of early voting on February 14

- Completed 1,764 volunteer shifts online or offline, with participation of volunteers all across the country

- Connected with voters in all 254 Texas counties and 2,273 different zip codes

What’s going on out there?

When there’s so much happening in our country, it can feel impossible to keep up. Don’t worry -- we’ve got you covered. Here are some key issues (and big wins) happening across the country:

- The student loan payment pause: Because of the continued hard work of organizers and activists like yourself, President Biden recently extended the student loan payment pause until August 31. This action provides relief for thousands of Americans who are struggling during this time of economic uncertainty, but President Biden can do more. We’re going to make sure we keep this pressure up and fight for President Biden to uphold his promise of canceling federal student loan debt.

- SCOTUS confirmation: Recently, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson was confirmed to the Supreme Court of The United States. Judge Jackson is not only the first Black woman to serve on the Supreme Court, but the first public defender, too. This is a historic win for *Justice* Jackson and our nation!

- Fighting for our climate: During Green Week -- a celebration of Earth Day and 4/20 -- we held successful events both online and in-person to advocate for climate action. We’re going to keep this momentum going as we continue to put necessary pressure on Congress to prioritize climate investment.

- Legalizing marijuana: Continuing with Green Week, we took action to urge President Biden to legalize marijuana and expunge past records. The work to decriminalize marijuana and expunge the records of those with federal cannabis convictions continues far past 4/20, and we’re dedicated to making sure President Biden sees this through.

Staff spring cleaning

- Courtney Bres, Texas Regional Organizing Director: “Spring is Crawfish season! My New Orleanian-born heart is always happiest (and stomach most full) in the springtime. As an Austin, TX, resident of 13 years, spring is the blessed time of year before our brutal summers where I can be outside without sweating from places I didn't even know I could. I love a good front porch hang, especially if it means I'm laughing until I cry with friends and my partner.”

- Theresa Bravo, Distributed Organizing Associate: “I am welcoming in spring by spending as much time outside as I can! Spring as a whole feels incredibly nourishing and refreshing, especially the continuous sunshine, so whether that's sitting outside during the workday or taking a bunch of walks, I am soaking in all of spring's beauty!!!”

- Craig Smith, Texas Organizer: “Trying to start an exercise routine, going outside!”

- Zach Asman, Analytics Engineer: “Baseball opening day!”
