Plunging freight demand points to further economic slide

Shippers' views on capacity, inventory and rates have reached a decline phase similar to May and June 2020, with the Truckload Demand Indicator reading of 58 putting freight demand near recession levels, according to Ken Hoexter, trucking research director for Bank of America. Trucks haul 72% of freight in the US and are often seen as an early indicator of larger economic downturns.

Marketers are preparing for a cookie-free future with an average of five different technology investments, according to a study by Loyalty Research Center that interviewed Fortune 500 business-to-business and business-to-consumer marketing leaders. In addition, respondents said they are investing more in social media and search, and Rep Data's Gary Elstein noted, "More companies are turning to primary, first-party data collection to help them understand audiences in the new marketing ecosystem."
