Dear Friend,
The conflict in Ukraine poses the existential threat of a nuclear war between NATO and Russia for the first time in decades.
Last week, Russia completed a succesful test-launch of its new nuclear-capable Sarmat II intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) system, which it plans to deploy by the autumn,
Meanwhile, we are facing a return of US nuclear weapons to the UK: the US Department of Defense has added the UK to a list of NATO nuclear weapons storage locations being upgraded under a multi-million-dollar infastructure programme. It is believed that US nuclear weapons will be coming back to RAF Lakenheath, a base in Suffolk run by the US.
Faced with the prospect of a new global nuclear arms race, one thing is clear: now more than ever a strong anti-nuclear movement is needed.
You may have received my email a few weeks ago, asking if you could support our work at this uniquely critical time. We've had a very encouraging response so far, but we still need to raise at least £14,000 to oppose the threat of nuclear war. If you haven't already, can you help by making a donation today?
