We need to hit our $35,000 fundraising goal to keep the first activist from the movement in defense of Black lives in Congress.
We want to be candid for a moment about the challenges we face this election, John.
As a freshman member of the House of Representatives, Cori will be up for re-election for the first time this November — and we know re-election won’t be a glide path.
Challenge #1: In 2020, we made history and elected the first Black woman to represent Missouri in Congress thanks to this grassroots movement. But that election was decided by just 3 points — less than 5,000 votes. And this year we're facing off against FOUR Democratic opponents.
Challenge #2: The attacks have already started, and they'll only increase as we get closer to Election Day. We've seen lies about Cori's support for defunding the police and misinformation about our movement. The far-right will spend countless sums to baselessly attack Cori, so we're counting on this grassroots team to help lead Cori to re-election.
John, we're not saying this to scare you into donating, but we want to be transparent about the challenges we face this election. That's why we've set a goal to raise $35,000 before our end-of-month fundraising deadline this Saturday.
Please, can you chip in $5 or more to reach our $35,000 goal before Saturday's end-of-month deadline and make sure Cori has the resources to continue organizing and legislating for bold, anti-racist, progressive change in Congress?
Chip in $5
To be honest, Cori's re-election is about more than just Missouri's First District — it's about who holds power in Congress. Democrats currently have the slimmest House majority in modern history and conventional wisdom holds that the midterms will be challenging for the president's party.
If we're going to stay in power, we need to re-elect leaders like Cori and continue building our progressive movement. Voters gave us a mandate in 2020 to deliver policies that center the needs of everyday people — not special interests.
That's why we're continuing our fight for environmental justice, workers' rights, and criminal-legal system reform. And, John, we can guarantee Cori's opponents won't stand up for Medicare for All and a Green New Deal because they won't be responsive to the people — they'll be responsive to their corporate backers.
Our end-of-month deadline is quickly coming up, and we need to hit our $35,000 fundraising goal to keep the first activist from the movement in defense of Black lives in Congress. Will you chip in $5 or whatever is meaningful to you? Any amount helps.
In solidarity,
Team Cori
