I Have Major Body Issues And I Am Terrified My Daughters Will Too
[[link removed]]
Today we have a raw and honest piece from Samm Burnham Davidson about her fear
that her daughters will inherit her body image issues. It opens with her
four-year-old checking herself out in the mirror while wearing a new
hand-me-down and concluding: “Wow. I am so beautiful.”

Davidson needed a moment, because her reaction was so complicated: “I’m so proud
that I haven’t f*cked her up yet, but so worried that I will. Life has yet to
beat the self-love out of her, but I’m sad knowing that will come.” She can’t
even imagine feeling the same way — and she wants to do whatever she can to
protect that instinct in her daughter. “After 37 years and four kids, admiring
my own reflection feels near impossible,” she admits. “But maybe if I figure out
how I got here, I can create a better path for her.”

‘A Train to Moscow’ Is Full of Family Secrets
[[link removed]]
If you’re looking to get tangled up in someone else’s family secrets, you’ll
love Elena Gorokhova’s debut novel, A Train to Moscow. This powerful tale is
filled with passion, loss, perseverance, and ambition. In post World War II
Russia, a young artist named Sasha leaves her small, provincial town to pursue
her dream of becoming an actress–a secret she’s long kept from her family. Sasha
moves to Moscow to attend drama school, disappointing her mother and
grandparents, and leaving behind her first love, Andrei. Through her education,
Sasha remains determined to succeed as an artist, but her passion is put to the
ultimate test when she begins working. After graduation, Sasha starts her acting
career in Leningrad, where Andrei has become a member of the Communist Party and
as a result, a censor of her work. As her ambitions conflict with Andrei’s
duties, Sasha must decide if her dreams are truly worth the sacrifice.
