John,
There's a Medicare nightmare brewing, and most people don't yet know it. The Biden administration is on a path that could privatize all of Medicare. Let me explain:
When Americans turn 65, they have a choice between traditional Medicare and Medicare Advantage, which essentially takes Medicare dollars to pay for private insurance plans. These Medicare Advantage plans often include things that traditional Medicare by law cannot, like dental and hearing. The corporations that run the plans use these benefits to lure people into their private insurance networks.
But when people get sick, Medicare Advantage plans restrict access and deny care. Their goal is to generate profits, not to provide people with high-quality health care.
Now, the Biden administration is wildly overpaying Medicare Advantage plans, undermining Traditional Medicare in the process.
We are sleepwalking into a crisis. Donate $7 to Social Security Works’s campaign to shed light on the stealth privatization of our Medicare system!
The health and financial well-being of the 64 million older adults and people with disabilities with Medicare depend on us to win this fight.
To put it bluntly, your choice of Medicare and your access to care are at risk. Your Medicare costs are going up. Your government is overpaying Medicare Advantage plans more than $600 billion through 2031, and driving up out-of-pocket costs for Traditional Medicare beneficiaries in the process. If Medicare Advantage fraud is not stopped, everyone with Medicare will be saddled with an additional $85 billion in additional premiums.
What can be done? We need Congress to act to keep Medicare Advantage payments on par with Traditional Medicare, rather than allowing Medicare Advantage to rip us off.
What's more, if you have Traditional Medicare, the government is putting insurers and private equity firms between you and your doctors. Through a program that the Trump administration called Direct Contracting, and the Biden administration re-named REACH, the government is giving private, for-profit corporations free rein to second-guess your health care needs and profit at your expense. What these Wall Street firms don't spend on care, they can pocket.
Keep Wall Street from taking away your choice of Medicare and driving up your costs. Donate to Social Security Works today to STOP the privatization of Medicare!
Thanks,
Alex Lawson Social Security Works
