ACLU Supporter –

Across the country right now, local and state police officers are being empowered to harass immigrant communities through a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) program – known as 287(g).

The ACLU has fought to end this unjust program alongside immigrants' rights organizations for nearly a decade – and today, we're launching a new report to make absolutely clear how damaging 287(g) is to our communities and public safety nationwide:

Dive into our report today to get a full picture of the history and analysis of this racist program – and actions the Biden administration can and must take to finally end it now. <[link removed]>

ACLU Supporter, under 287(g) agreements, local law enforcement agencies – primarily sheriffs – are enabled with authority that would normally be reserved for federal ICE agents.

It gives them the ability to investigate a person's immigration status and hold people for transfer to ICE detention – and means that even the most minor of interactions with local law enforcement could lead to deportation and being split apart from family members.

And if that wasn't enough, our report reveals dozens of these sheriff partners in the 287(g) program have records of racism, abuse, and violence.

It was under the anti-immigrant efforts of the Trump administration that this program expanded five-fold – but President Biden is continuing to partner with these sheriffs.

That's why we're doing all we can to speak out against 287(g) – and why we hope you'll join us in these efforts by reading and sharing this critically-informative report today. <[link removed]>
