Nottingham Electric Fleet
*Nottingham top of the pops with Awards *
Nottingham City Council have been highly commended at the National Transport Awards for our contribution to sustainable transport as we continue to be one of the leading organisations tackling the climate crisis.
The awards panel were particularly impressed with our desire to push forward the idea of what is possible within a sustainable fleet; in addition to the 80 zero emission cars and vans now in service, we have also effectively implemented the first fully electric sweepers, cage tippers and minibuses in the UK.

*Vehicle to Grid: van arrival*
36 Nissan eNV200 vans will be arriving by the end of November and will be going into service soon after.
These will be a part of the Vehicle to Grid (V2G) project where we are one of four cities taking part in the Clean Mobility and Energy for Cities project [ [link removed] ].
The new vans will be used in an integrated V2G system which combines vehicles, battery storage and solar PV through a smart management system. This aims to work out how EVs, storage and on-site generation can help optimise charging and maximise use of renewable generation, resulting in reductions in CO2 emissions and to help balance the grid.
The CleanMobilEnergy project is funded by Interreg North West Europe and Innovate UK.

Green plates = Clean plates?
Green number plates
The government announced [ [link removed] ] a consultation on green number plates for zero emission vehicles. We think this is a great way to distinguish ULEVs, inform road users and normalise clean vehicles on our roads.
This will allow local authorities to have a clear identifier for ULEV incentives, such as in car parks and ULEV lanes. For us in Nottingham, our Daleside Road ULEV/bus lane [ [link removed] ] will benefit from this, and non-ULEV drivers will clearly see what the lane is all about.
Green number plates will also help with the general uptake of low emission vehicles as people begin to understand all about them, leading to more conversations, busting some myths and misconceptions.

How businesses can finance EVs
From April 2020, company car drivers choosing a pure electric vehicle will be taxed at 0% paying no benefit-in-kind tax at all.
An EV finance workshop held on 29 October was aimed at businesses wanting to get better informed about the business case for using electric vehicles as part of their fleet.
Over 25 individual businesses from across Nottingham attended, ranging from delivery companies, taxi firms, electricians, through to lawyers. The event proved to be very interactive with a number of insightful questions, making it apparent that many businesses are seriously thinking of switching to ULEVs, especially given the favourable tax changes in 2020.
A series of EV test drives took place, resulting in 5 requests for EV loans from Nottinghams ULEV Experience [ [link removed] ].

Congratulations to our newest Workplace Travel Service grant awardees
Halsbury Travel
15 more grants have been approved, set to enable more sustainable forms of transport for businesses and public sector organisations in Nottingham, including EV charge points, cycle parking and cycle shelters.
One of our newest awardees is Halsbury Travel Ltd. Their grant of 22,083 will be used to invest in 5 charging points, 1 cycle shower, and 5 Raleigh pool e-bikes. Dominic Seales from Halsbury Travel said:
"As someone who strives to have a more positive impact on the environment, it was a fantastic opportunity to apply for this grant on behalf of Halsbury Travel. Nottingham City Councils Workplace Travel scheme is a major driving force for Halsburys CSR initiatives by encouraging our staff to choose more sustainable options for their commute. This follows on from a newly formed committee of dedicated staff members, headed by our recently appointed Managing Director - Hugues Raulet, working hard to improve the way we operate as a business from an environmental perspective."
""The scheme also enabled us to build new relationships with local suppliers and businesses, which we hope will continue to flourish.""
