John,

Are you ready for the local elections? On Thursday 5 May, the Green Party is fighting to win seats in over 100 of 169 councils that have elections, including in all London boroughs and all local authorities in Wales. This is important, because these areas won't have elections again until 2026 and 2027. We need to get more Greens elected because we can't afford to wait to tackle the cost of living crisis and climate emergency. Scroll for more 🔽

In the final days leading up to the elections, Deputy leader Amelia Womack wrote in Green World on why every leaflet matters and every conversation counts in getting more Green candidates over the line. The Guardian visited Burnley Green Party to look at how they have gone from strength to strength in recent years - showing how local Green Parties are consistently growing support by working hard all year around. How can you help us in this last stretch of the campaign so we can reach as many potential voters as possible?

Carla Denyer said that 'we are a compassionate people and country. We want our government to represent us and be compassionate towards those refugees', responding to the shameful Rwanda refugee plan. She also joined 160 other councillors signing a letter rejecting the government's plans.

Speaking on BBC Politics Live, Caroline Lucas called for bolder and more radical policies such as a universal basic income, a land value tax and a wealth tax - policies absent from both the Tories and Labour.

Green Party London Assembly member Caroline Russell spoke to BBC Radio London about the partygate fines and Boris Johnson's refusal to resign (around 3 hours 42 minutes in).

Brighton and Hove councillor Hannah Clare spoke to LBC on the story of a Ukrainian refugee being left homeless just days after moving in with a host in the city.

The Green Party in Northern Ireland has launched a petition to demand the BBC gives the party its fair coverage during the election campaign.
