Nottingham City Council recognised with multiple awards
Nottingham's Electric Van Service Centre

*Fleet News Awards, Environmental Fleet Trailblazer*

The Environmental Fleet Trailblazer award recognised the council as a leader in the field of fleet electrification, delivering savings both in CO2 and financially as well as improving driver wellbeing. The council has been the first in the UK to purchase fully electric sweepers, cage tippers, minibuses and bin lorries and it is now helping local businesses and individuals switch to zero emission vehicles.

Judges said:

“With half its fleet already fully electric, Nottingham City Council has detailed strategies to transition all its vehicles over the coming years, from cars to trucks. Exciting innovation, with eCargo bikes and wireless charging among its trials, makes the council a clear winner, not just in its fleet, but in its support to transition the entire city - residents and businesses - to clean fuels and alternative transport. A true environmental trailblazer.”

*Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, Award for Excellence for Transport Policy and Planning*

Nottingham’s Workplace Parking Levy (WPL) has received this prestigious award which recognises the WPL as a transport policy which has made real change and provided outstanding benefits to the economy, public and local community. The WPL demonstrated excellent planning, development & delivery and continues to overcome challenges through strong leadership and collaborative working. The WPL has directly raised £83 million to date and levered in £600 million of inward investment which has seen a step change in Nottingham’s public transport offer which has contributed to the 53% reduction in CO2 emissions in Nottingham since 2005.

Judges said:

“For their bold step of being the first local authority to implement a workplace parking levy.”

*Top 25 of Decarbonisation Power Players*

Matt Ralfe, the Innovation and Change Manager, has been been voted as part of the Top 25 Decarbonisation Power Players in the country. Matt has been recognised through his role in the change the council's fleet from two to approximately 200 ultra-low-emission vehicles (ULEV) along with the creation of a specialist ULEV garage.

City firms urged to take advantage of free 30-day electric van trial

Electric Van experience van

The Electric Van Experience (EVE) team are putting on an event on 5 May between 11am – 3pm outside the Arc Building at NG2 Business Park for participants to have an accompanied test-drive in some of our vans on offer.

This service offers Nottingham businesses and organisations the opportunity to loan a fully insured electric van for 30 days along with the installation of a workplace charge point at zero cost. To qualify, you must be within the Nottingham City Council boundary.

Councillor Sally Longford, the Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Energy and the Environment at Nottingham City council, said: “The idea is for firms to experience the benefits of an electric van for themselves before making any commitment. This isn’t available through dealerships or manufacturers, so it’s a unique opportunity and key to addressing the barriers that businesses face with electrifying fleets.

To remember for the event:

* 5th May
* Outside the Arc Building at NG2 Business Park
* 11am – 3pm
* Limited 10-minute test rides are available
* Chance to ride in:
* Maxus eDeliver 9
* Toyota Proace
* Renault Kangoo

Plug-in van and truck grants extension for businesses
Electric vehicle fleet

Businesses will continue to be supported by the government in making the switch to electric vehicles as there has been a two year extension to the plug-in van and truck grant. [ [link removed](www.gov.uk) ]

More than 26,000 electric vans and heavy goods vehicles have already been supported by existing grants since the programme was launched in 2012. In the last year, there were four times as many grant applications compared to 2020.

It is expected that this move will support even further purchases of electric vans and trucks to make the UK less reliant on import of foreign oil and improving the security of our energy supply as well as using greener technologies.

The Transport Minister Trudy Harrison said:

“When it comes to clean business, this government means business. We are backing a generation of green growth for our thriving fleet sector.”

“As demand for electric vehicles continues to grow at speed, this extension to our grant scheme will allow tens of thousands more vans to be purchased, transporting goods in a way which is kinder to our environment. This will support our vital, ongoing work to clean up our air in towns and cities right across the country and build back greener.”
