Unleashing Its Market Is The Way America Beats China - The U.S. is not going to win this global fight with China through increased regulation and government spending. We need to do just the opposite, unleash the American market, and use its extraordinary appeal to counter whatever China can offer. It’s not clear where things are headed in Congress on the so-called “China bill,” otherwise known as the America COMPETES Act. The House and Senate have each passed their own versions and appointed more than 60 congressmen and senators to work out a compromise. Where they come out ultimately is anyone’s guess. Both bills have so little to do with China that the best outcome would be tossing out the whole thing and starting over next year. BLM’s Problems Are Bigger Than the Grift - But the foundation’s biggest problem has never been the grift. Nor has it been that its self-avowed Marxist founders have gone on a mansion-buying spree with money well-intentioned Americans and craven corporations donated. The worst is that organizations founded by leftist revolutionaries have so profoundly transformed America already. In my book “BLM,” I detail how Patrisse Cullors, Alicia Garza, Opal Tometi and Melina Abdullah, BLM’s founders, are Marxists with an abiding hatred of the American way of life. Ms. Cullors and Ms. Garza were trained by theoreticians steeped in cultural Marxism, or the idea that to dismantle society you must first infiltrate the culture and indoctrinate Americans. Ms. Tometi is a devotee of Venezuela’s dictator Nicolás Maduro, while Ms. Abdullah says, “In order to eliminate police violence, and the killings of our people at their hands, we must also target the economic systems that built it and rely on it.” It is because of them, and the havoc they’ve visited on America since 2013, that we’re having to fight culture wars in classrooms, offices, churches and army barracks. Congress’ Overspending Is the Problem, Not a Lack of Tax DollarsAmericans that ostensibly didn’t pay income taxes are now paying the price for those deficit-financed stimulus checks in the form of 8.5% inflation. And besides the income tax, working Americans—directly or indirectly—pay plenty of other taxes, from the payroll tax to tariffs. A result of our disjointed patchwork system of taxation is that it leaves most Americans unaware of how much tax they pay or how much those taxes harm them economically. Congress should take responsibility for its overspending and the broken tax code it built, instead of asking the American people to pay for Washington’s irresponsible policies. Wily Ukrainian Tactics and Poor Design Led to Russian Warship’s Sinking - While the Moskva’s sinking is a testament to the ingenuity of the Ukrainian armed forces, it also serves as a reminder of the perils at sea and the cost of failing to make the investments needed to be a competent and potent naval force. Sadly, based on the administration’s latest budget proposal, which retires many more ships than it is commissioning, the Biden administration appears dead set on a course that will erode our navy’s ability to deter a foe like China.  Heritage Expert: Brent Sadler

Parents Are Going on Offensive to Fight Indoctrination in EducationAcross America, states have gone on the offensive, targeting the radical sex and “gender” curriculums in grade schools. These proposals follow increasing calls from parents to reject sexually explicit content unearthed in public school classrooms. The Parental Rights in Education law, recently signed by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, sparked heated conversations throughout the nation regarding sex education and “gender ideology.” The Florida law addresses teacher conduct and material allowed in classrooms. It also postpones any teaching of sexual orientation and “gender identity” until after third grade. Heritage Expert: Jonathan Butcher

Elon Musk Buys Twitter. Will He Bring Back Banned Users? - Tesla CEO Elon Musk is buying Twitter. News broke Monday afternoon that the social media platform had accepted Musk’s $44 billion offer to buy it. Musk, who also runs the rocket company SpaceX, previously had expressed frustration at Twitter’s perceived anti-free speech policies. The billionaire began seriously implying that he might buy Twitter following the platform’s series of high-profile bans last month. We “look forward to seeing Musk and Twitter address the rampant and deeply entrenched anti-conservative bias their platform has long exhibited and am confident this will allow for more effective and productive discourse in the future.” Heritage Experts: Douglas Blair and Annelise Butler

Why Tennessee’s New Residency Requirement for Congressional Candidates Is Blatantly Unconstitutional - Article I, Section II of the Constitution provides that “No Person shall be a Representative who shall not have attained to the Age of twenty five Years, and been seven Years a Citizen of the United States, and who shall not, when elected, be an Inhabitant of that State in which he shall be chosen.” That’s it. Those are the only three qualifications of eligibility for a candidate running for the U.S. House. Imposing a state residency requirement might seem reasonable to some. Others might view it as bias against newcomers. But one’s opinion of the fairness or unfairness of such a requirement doesn’t really matter. According to the U.S. Supreme Court, such additional qualifications imposed by states are unconstitutional.  Heritage Expert: Hans von Spakovsky

Send Ukraine Cyber Help, Not Bureaucratic Gridlock - The United States has sent Ukraine a variety of military equipment, including killer drones, Stinger surface-to-air missiles, Javelin anti-tank missiles, small arms, and ammunition. We should do more.If ordered, U.S. Cyber Command could develop the ability to temporarily disable key Russian military, intelligence, or logistics networks. This would be a tremendous boon to Ukrainian forces. Moreover, such cyber operations would not be clearly traceable back to the U.S.—reducing the possibility of escalating tensions with Russia. Unfortunately, it appears that National Security Council staff will force the Pentagon to navigate a time-consuming bureaucratic maze before it can include offensive cyber operations in the package of military assistance to Ukraine.
