Dear John,
The pandemic has hit all of us hard, and Georgia is no different.
Georgian families have faced threats of eviction and job loss, an inability to pay bills, and limited to no access to healthcare. Too many people have been forced to choose between financial ruin or serious illness. And that’s why the American Rescue Plan has been so important to the livelihood of Georgians.
Since the Biden-Harris administration and Georgia Democrats passed the American Rescue Plan, a number of measures have been taken to protect families, childcare providers, educators, small businesses, and Georgia communities. Here are a few of our biggest wins this year:
- The Child Tax Credit was expanded to benefit nearly 1,374,000 families. This necessary tax break of up to $1,600 per child is working to lift 171,000 children and their families out of poverty.
- The expanded Earned Income Tax Credit will benefit an estimated 569,000 workers with roughly $1,500 each.
- Georgia’s public schools were awarded more than $4.2 billion – 90% of which will go directly to school districts.
- Local health centers are receiving over $22 million to provide support for EMS agencies, train and recruit health care workers, and invest in rural health care.
- Bishop and other state legislators have worked to secure $1.6 billion in funding to provide child care support for 10,000 new low-income families.
- And so much more.
In a moment of crisis, Democrats stood up for Georgians and invested in the institutions that keep our communities afloat. But I fear what will happen next time a crisis strikes if Republicans are able to take back the U.S. House.
Please, to ensure that we keep the U.S. House blue, and Democrats can keep fighting for Georgians, can you chip in $20 to my campaign today?
In solidarity,
Team Bishop
