Do you ever feel like David standing before Goliath?
As President and CEO of Americans United for Life, my team and I often feel as if we’re standing against a giant in our fight for life. It is disheartening that Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion chain, received over $600 million in government funds in 2019, plus $400 million more in private donations. But I am so very inspired by the outsized impact of our lean, efficient team to change hearts, minds, and the laws of our nation.
This is why I was disappointed to learn that on March 23, MacKenzie Scott, the former wife of Jeff Bezos, gave an astronomical $275 million to Planned Parenthood – the largest charitable gift in the organization’s history.
According to Ms. Scott, "We are all attempting to give away a fortune that was enabled by systems in need of change. The social structures that inflate wealth present obstacles to equality and justice for women, and racial and sexual minorities."
I share MacKenzie’s desire to seek equity and justice for women...but I so wish I could share my life and work with MacKenzie. I wish I could share with her the horrific experiences too many women – myself included – have experienced at the hands of Planned Parenthood and other abortion clinics. I wish I could share with her the organization’s tainted racial legacy. I wish I could show her how little abortion on demand will do to decrease the injustices against women and people of color.
