Hello,

I lost the very first election I ran in.

It was 2002, and I lost my New Hampshire State Senate race by 8% of the vote.

Losing is never fun, but I didn’t let it deter me. I ran again in 2004 and won.

I ran for office to make a difference for as many people who needed my help as I could and to ensure that every American has the opportunity to succeed, no matter who they are.

My 2002 and 2004 elections were many years ago, and now, the stakes are much higher. My U.S. Senate seat is one of the most competitive in the country. In fact, thanks to the support of a massive grassroots operation, I was elected to this seat by just 1,017 votes!

If I lose this time around, Democrats forfeit our Senate majority to Mitch McConnell and the progress we’ve made under a Democratic administration will go out the window.

I’m emailing today, everyone, because I need your help. A brand-new poll shows me losing to my GOP opponent, and we need to turn these numbers around.

Will you please rush a grassroots donation – $3 or any amount you can – right now to keep New Hampshire’s Senate seat in Democratic control?

Winning truly takes all of us coming together, and I’m counting on you. Thank you for getting involved.

With every good wish,
Maggie Hassan
