John – We’ve known for a while now that the Supreme Court is not a friend of democracy. In recent months, the six conservative justices have shown that they aren’t big fans of fair redistricting, either: “After a redistricting cycle that initially went better than expected for Democrats, the conservative Supreme Court has bolstered Republican efforts to reverse that trend, with more cases in the wings from GOP attorneys and legislators from multiple states.” We won’t sugarcoat it: This is an alarming development, and it underscores how much work there is still to do to ensure the fairest possible districts – both in 2022 and beyond. Your support is critical to the execution of that work, John. Will you pitch in whatever you can today to help the fight for fair maps? There are more threats from SCOTUS on the horizon. First, the justices could hear more redistricting cases in the coming months and years. And second, Republicans are asking the Court to validate the independent state legislature theory, a fringe idea that, if adopted, could give GOP state legislatures unprecedented power over maps and elections.
