Somalia’s devastating drought continuesClimate change has contributed to a devastating lack of rainfall in Somalia and the Horn of Africa region. Crops are failing and livestock are starving. Without food to eat or crops to sell, children and families are taking extreme measures to survive. Hundreds of thousands of people have left their homes searching for food and water. UNICEF is on the ground with partners ensuring access to safe water, therapeutic foods to treat acute malnutrition, routine vaccinations and more.

Mothers help their children find some peace during warTwo months into the war in Ukraine, millions of children are deeply traumatized by the violence all around them. UNICEF interviewed seven mothers who are finding ways to help their children process the trauma they are experiencing. Tactile contact, the continuation of household rituals, answering questions and sharing hope are just a few of the ways these incredible moms are providing love, care and consistency in this time of crisis.

Ukraine update: Living underground to stay aliveMetro stations have been transformed into temporary homes and learning spaces for Ukrainian mothers and children who no longer feel safe going outside. UNICEF-supported volunteers offer educational activities, emotional support and creative outlets to give children a sense of normalcy during wartime. As the conflict continues to take a toll on Ukrainian children's well-being, safety and education, these volunteers are doing what they can to offer some peace and stability.
