John,
Immigrants should not be used as pawns in political games. And yet, over the last two years starting under the Trump administration, more than 1.7 million immigrants have been blocked or expelled from the U.S., using a little known provision known as Title 42.
President Biden has announced his intentions to end the use of Title 42 starting May 23―in so doing, protecting refugees and asylum seekers. But now, a federal judge in Louisiana has temporarily blocked the Biden administration’s actions, although the impact of this decision is not yet clear.1
At the same time, a number of U.S. senators―Democrats and Republicans alike―are objecting to ending the use of Title 42. These senators want to continue blocking refugees and asylum seekers fleeing war, genocide, political repression and religious persecution―under the guise of protecting the public from Covid-19.
Write to your members of Congress right now and demand they support President Biden in finally lifting the cruel use of Title 42 that is punishing immigrants and asylum seekers at our southern border.

This policy has never been about public health. In fact, senior scientists at the Centers for Disease Control objected to the Title 42 order when it was implemented by the Trump administration and leading epidemiologists and medical experts continue to object to its use today.
Title 42 is a cruel practice that violates domestic law and international treaty obligations.
If we expect other countries to uphold refugee law and welcome people fleeing across borders in search of protection, including those now forced to flee Ukraine, we must lead by example and uphold refugee laws at our own borders.
Take action today. Write to your members of Congress and demand they support President Biden in ending the cruel use of Title 42 that punishes immigrants and asylum seekers.
Thank you for fighting for the rights and humane treatment of all people seeking peace and safety at our borders and throughout the world.
