I want to introduce myself to you. My name is Gabby Giffords – I'm a former Congresswoman, and 11 years ago, my life was changed forever when I survived a mass shooting at a constituent event in my hometown. I decided to turn my pain into purpose by becoming a national gun safety advocate, and I've never looked back.
But today, I'm not writing to talk about myself. I'm here to tell you about a person that I admire, Tina Kotek — a passionate advocate and legislator who is now running for Governor.
As Oregon's longest-serving House Speaker, Tina Kotek has made great strides in the fight against gun violence:
Closed loopholes and expanded background checks for gun purchases, aiding the fight to keep guns out of dangerous hands.
Required guns to be stored safely, keeping our children safe from potentially deadly accidents.
Fought for innovative community violence intervention programs to stop the cycle of violence.
Even in the midst of intense NRA opposition, Tina was able to pass comprehensive gun safety legislation to make our communities safer. That's why I'm proud to endorse Tina Kotek for Governor.
We can build a future free from gun violence, but to do that we need to elect champions like Tina who are ready on day one to fight for our communities. Tina's campaign is people-powered, so she's relying on your support today to help her win so that we can keep fighting for change.
I told Tina that I would help her raise $5,000 before her fundraising deadline. So I'm counting on you to give whatever you can.
