Back in the summer when Beth Van Duyne first announced her candidacy to replace do-nothing Kenny Marchant, her anti-muslim rhetoric and ties to the Trump presidency were brought up (www.washingtonpost.com/news/acts-of-faith/wp/2015/09/16/the-history-of-anti-islam-controversy-in-ahmed-mohameds-texas-city/).
Now she is doubling down on the hate, racism, and fear tactics brought about by her Republican colleagues by proudly announcing her latest endorsements: House Republican Whip, Steve Scalise, and Congresswoman Elise Stefanik.
Stefanik is best known for her asinine comments during the Impeachment Hearing (www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2019/11/15/20967080/impeachment-hearing-yovanovitch-stefanik-schiff-trump), and Scalise who, among other things, earlier this year maintained that Obama, not Trump should be investigated for Russian interference in the 2016 elections ([link removed]). These are the people Ms. Van Duyne is proud to have back her.
I firmly believe that the company we keep is the truest reflection of us. If that is true, then Ms. Van Duyne's character is even more acidic than we thought.
She is not who we are. Her values are not our values. She is not what we need or want.
If you believe, as I do, that racism has no home here, join us ([link removed]). Help send someone to Washington who represents what we hold dear.
Sincerely,
Dr. John Biggan
