Dear Friend,
As you may know, our annual benefit, Reimagine, will take place on Wednesday, June 22, at 7:30pm ET. I cannot wait to come together online with you to reimagine an immigration system that protects, respects, and celebrates immigrant children.
This year, award-winning journalist and author Maria Hinojosa will be our guest speaker, in a recorded conversation led by Young Center Executive Director Gladis Molina Alt. As a reporter who was the first Latina in many newsrooms, Ms. Hinojosa has given a critical voice to the diversity and complexity of the American experience in her nearly 30-year career, hosting NPR’s Latino USA, and reporting for countless media outlets, including PBS, CBS, WNBC, CNN. She has also authored several books, among them Once I Was You: A Memoir of Love and Hate in a Torn America, which tells the story of immigration in America through her family’s experiences and decades of reporting.
We are thrilled to announce that an adaptation for young adults of this memoir, slated for publication in August 2022, will be given to everyone who buys tickets for our Reimagine benefit at the $250+ level as a thank you memento! Described as “a powerful memoir that doubles as an essential immigration primer,” this book will undoubtedly become a literary cornerstone for immigrant youth in the United States and the communities they navigate for years to come. Click here to purchase your ticket and we will see you online in June.
