When it comes to the recent rash of book bans in school libraries across America, there are few reasons to be amused—but one of the censorship crusade's targets has us scratching our heads, and it's hard not to chuckle for just a moment at the ridiculous lengths book banners will go to limit free expression.
A Houston Chronicle story digging into recently banned books found that Transformers, Revenge of the Fallen Vol 2, Official Movie Adaptation was informally challenged in Clear Creek ISD last year. And although the reasons for the challenge were unclear, the school system still removed the book.
Bye-bye, Optimus Prime.
[link removed] [[link removed]] Yes, they banned the graphic novel version of a PG-13 movie about alien robots that turn into planes, trains, and automobiles, and back again. On a more serious note, the banning of a book about an action movie points to something very serious: The people politicizing our children and scaring parents do not care about students, families, or providing young Texans with a quality education. They're just trying to flex their power to control our neighborhood schools with their agenda.
