Dear John,
For the last three years, supporters like you have helped AFSC deliver assistance to some of those most in need in Gaza and the West Bank. As regional director for AFSC’s programs in the Middle East, I can tell you that this generous support has helped many people – and is deeply appreciated!
Simple gifts make all the difference in the world to people living in poverty and under Israeli occupation. This year AFSC will be providing children with back-to-school kits. These kits will contain items such as bags, pens, stationary, textbooks, and school uniforms. For children coming from families with limited resources, these items make a vital difference at school.
Together, we can make a difference in children’s lives. And that is why I am writing to you today to once again ask for your support.
Give today to help AFSC provide back-to-school kits to Palestinian children and support our work for justice and peace.
AFSC has been on the ground in Palestine for decades, advocating for the rights of communities with limited access to healthcare, electricity, clean water, education, and other essential needs. In Gaza, the whole society is suffering as the result of repeated attacks and 16 years of blockade. The overall unemployment rate in Gaza is nearly 50%. Among those who work, average wages are well below poverty levels. Over 80% of the Gaza population relies on international assistance to survive. Under this blockade, items like school supplies are often unaffordable for families.
The attack on Gaza last year further exacerbated this already difficult situation. Nearly 20,000 homes and businesses were destroyed and damaged, deeply impacting many families. All of these different factors increase vulnerability among children and impact their ability to spend necessary time at school.
A donation of $50 helps us provide supplies to one child. But a gift in any amount makes a difference. Please give today to support Palestinian children and to build peace with justice in the region.
In the coming months, with support from kind people like you, we will provide hundreds of Palestinian children in Gaza with school kits. Your gift will specifically help children enroll in school who are living in deep poverty and in neighborhoods significantly impacted by the attacks last year.
Thank you for joining us in helping as many people as possible – and for helping us advocate for the systemic changes needed to address the injustices and inequities that put people in harm’s way. Your support means so much to us – and to the communities in Gaza.
In peace,
