** Reiner: If You Vote for Republicans, ‘You’re Voting for Autocracy’

This week on MSNBC’s The Sunday Show ([link removed]) , filmmaker Rob Reiner ([link removed]) said that if a person votes for any Republicans, they are voting for “autocracy.”

Reiner said, “First off, all let’s dispense with the idea of Republican a Democrat, or conservative and liberal. We are talking about democracy versus autocracy. We see it happening all over the world. That’s one of the reasons Putin invaded Ukraine. He is wanting to destroy democracy.”

Fact check: Putin did not invade one of the most politically corrupt countries in the world in order to “destroy democracy.”

Reiner continued: “So, you have a man, former president of the United States, who led and incited a deadly insurrection to overthrow the United States government,” referring to the January 6 Capitol chaos the Left insists on calling an “insurrection” and insists was “incited” by Donald Trump.

There was no insurrection. Trump incited nothing. And the only reason the “insurrection” was deadly is because an unarmed female protester was shot dead by a panicked Capitol police officer. So everything the hysteric Reiner said is a lie.

Reiner added, “[Trump] controls every aspect of what he would now call the Republican Party. I don’t know what it is. This is an autocratic movement. So, if you’re voting for Republicans, you’re not voting for Republicans. You’re voting for autocracy. You’re voting for the man who tried to overthrow the government. So, that is what is at stake here. It’s much more than, ‘Am I voting for a Republican or a Democrat?’”

Reiner is not a serious political commentator. He is an unhinged demagogue and Hollywood celebrity (but I repeat myself). And the state propaganda outlet MSNBC gives him an unchallenged platform to spread this divisive disinformation.

On December 31, 2018, Reiner tweeted ([link removed]) : “The President of the United States [Donald Trump] is a sick criminal. New Year’s resolution: Get him the fuck out of the White House.” Two days later, he tweeted: “[W]hen the dust settles, we will be rid of this lying malignant narcissistic cancer. Happy New Year.”

In a January 27, 2021 tweet ([link removed]) , Reiner demanded that the Senate convict former President Trump in the latter’s upcoming impeachment trial. “Our original sin is at the the root of our continuing Civil War. Donald Trump, the new leader of the Confederacy, heads the Sedition,” Reiner tweeted. “If he is not held accountable with a Senate conviction, there will be no Appomattox” — the site of Robert E. Lee’s surrender to Union General Ulysses S. Grant in 1865.
