Indivisibles,

Congress is back from a two-week recess which means that we could start to see some movement on legislative issues -- COVID-19 funding, Ukraine funding, and a cap on insulin pricing to name a few possibilities.

As we’ve seen in the past, we have no assurance that Congress will do the right thing and immediately pass much-needed legislation to serve the American people. Legislation is still the most powerful tool for change on a national scale, so we continue to monitor any movement in Congress and look for every opportunity to support progress.

But we know that we can not wait for relief. So while we monitor the legislative process, we’re still encouraging President Biden to use the full extent of his powers to effect change. Last week, we focused on letters to the editor (LTEs) to drive attention to our key executive action targets -- this week we’re focusing on calls.

Congress is back in session, so let’s make sure that all of our representatives hear from us and encourage President Biden to take action.

With that, here are your weekly to-dos:

 Your 4 weekly to-dos

  1. Click here to call the White House comment line and tell President Biden to lower prescription drug prices. One in four Americans struggles to afford their essential medications. We can not afford to wait for a legislative fix while Big Pharma lines its pockets! We need President Biden to use his existing authority to unilaterally lower drug prices right now while we continue to push for a more permanent legislative solution.
  2. If you live in a blue state, click here to call your senator and push them to tell Biden he must declare a National Climate Emergency. President Biden has narrowly invoked the Defense Production Act (DPA) -- one of the most important powers that can be invoked under a national emergency -- to increase production of mining in order to aid in the manufacturing of electric vehicle (EV) batteries. It is good that the administration has invoked the DPA, but this narrow focus is not enough to address the climate crisis. When you’re done with your senator, click here to call your representative and tell them to encourage Biden to declare a National Climate Emergency.
  3. If you live in a red state, click here to demand that President Biden take action on climate. The climate crisis does not care if we live in a red state or a blue state. To make your voice heard, connect to the White House comment line directly and tell President Biden that we need immediate, bold action on climate.
  4. Sign up for Indivisible’s National Rural Caucus. Whether you've been organizing in your rural community for decades or are just getting involved, our rural program provides space to connect with one another, engage in rural electoral and advocacy work, and celebrate rural resistance and power building. Sign up to receive a monthly rural newsletter geared specifically towards organizing for change in rural communities.

P.S. We rely on your support to keep call pages up and running, fund ads to get the word out, and continue all the work we’re doing this year. If you’re able, click here to donate to help fund our work.

 National Events

Register here for the Rural Caucus Call on Wednesday, April 27 at 8pm ET/5pm PT. Once a month, rural Indivisibles and organizers all over the country join together to support rural organizing nationwide. This month, join us as the Rural Urban Bridge Initiative presents their program to help bridge the political, economic, and cultural divide between rural and urban/suburban communities. Next, Robin Johnson, host of Heartland Politics, will share how Democrats can win in white working class districts. Finally, Indivisible NC District 9 (ID9) Group Leader Ava Williamson will share their experiences canvassing with partner organizations in both urban and rural areas of NC.

Rural Caucus Call Wednesday, April 27 at 8pm ET

Register here for the Truth Brigade Wednesday Workshop and New Member Orientation this Wednesday, April 27 at 6:30pm ET/3:30pm PT. On the fourth Wednesday of every month, join our workshop where we’ll have a new member orientation, "ask me anything!" discussions with staff and disinformation-fighting pros for new and existing members, message workshopping support, and -- maybe most important -- connect with a community of people who care as much as you do about rebuilding a society based on truth and trust. This is also where we launch new Truth Brigade campaigns.

Indivisible Project is a locally-led, people-powered movement of thousands of local groups in red, blue, and purple states, and in urban, suburban, and rural areas. Our mission is to power and lift up a grassroots movement of local groups to defeat the Trump agenda, elect progressive leaders, and realize bold progressive policies.

Grassroots donations, not foundations or large gifts, are our single largest source of funding. That means we’re accountable to, and fueled by, Indivisibles on the ground. Chip in $7 to keep fueling our movement.
