Millennials and Generation Z are breaking barriers with their support for Palestinian rights

Dear Email,

A crucial battle for Palestine in the US is taking place on college campuses. Across the country, student activists are taking the work for Palestine to new heights, hosting educational events like Israeli Apartheid Week and pushing their respective universities to divest from Israel.

There are more than 250 chapters of Students for Justice in Palestine and nearly 1,000 Muslim Student Associations around the US and they are influencing tens of thousands of their peers that are quickly becoming decision-makers in this country.

The work being done by students for Palestinian rights on campuses is changing the political dynamics in America. Not only are students contributing to shifts in public opinion on Palestine, but they are influencing how politicians act towards Israel’s aggression. As students become voters, their influence will only grow. That’s why we at AMP are increasing our support for student organizing and are working with student leaders on developing their skills to enhance the work for Palestine in America.

For over a decade, I have led AMP’s grassroots efforts in communities and college campuses around the country. I’ve traveled coast to coast from New York to California and from Minnesota to Texas and have come to one conclusion: young people are the backbone of the Palestine movement and need our support. Opinion polls confirm that public support for Israel is steadily declining and that Millennials (born between 1981 to 1996) and Gen Z (born between 1997 to 2012) are the biggest reason for this shift. At AMP, we recognize this trend and are working to empower this new generation through training, grants, and by offering resources to student organizers leading this important work.

In these last blessed nights of this Holy Month, I ask you to stand with us as we work to shift the narrative on Palestine in the US, cultivating a generation of Palestine advocates who will lead the way. Support our work this Ramadan as we build on past successes and support a new generation for Palestine.

Sincerely,

Taher Herzallah
