Hey everyone --

Doris here, with an update on the steps I have taken in Congress in regards to
the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

It is beyond upsetting to hear the news every day about the ongoing war in
Ukraine. From reports out of Bucha to Mariupol, the news is harrowing, to say
the least.

In Congress, we have been working hard to pass legislation to help the
Ukrainian people. I was part of a group of legislators calling for the
admittance of Ukrainians fleeing Putin’s war of aggression against their
country under refugee status rather than parole status. I recently votedyes on
the following pieces of legislation:Suspending Energy Imports from Russia Act,
Suspending Normal Trade Relations with Russia and Belarus, and the Ukraine
Invasion War Crimes Deterrence and Accountability Act.

All of these are small but important steps taken to help ease the pain that
the Ukrainian people are going through today and to aid in their struggle
against Russian invaders. The Ukrainian community makes up a large portion of
Sacramento’s diverse demographics, and every day I think of and work on behalf
of them.

America is a safe haven for refugees and a beacon of hope and peace to
war-torn nations. I hope we can further create and pass legislation that aids
the Ukrainian people.

In solidarity,
Doris Matsui
