Hello,

This week's edition will discuss responsibility, the war on western culture and how to organize your life for success.

Beyond Order: Rule IV (Notice that opportunity lurks where responsibility has been abdicated)—Page 134.

What is the antidote to the suffering and malevolence of life? The highest possible goal. What is the prerequisite to pursuit of the highest possible goal? Willingness to adopt the maximum degree of responsibility—and this includes the responsibilities that others disregard or neglect.

You might object: “Why should I shoulder all that burden? It is nothing but sacrifice, hardship, and trouble.”

But what makes you so sure you do not want something heavy to carry? You positively need to be occupied with something weighty, deep, profound, and difficult. Then, when you wake up in the middle of the night and the doubts crowd in, you have some defense: “For all my flaws, which are manifold, at least I am doing this. At least I am taking care of myself. At least I am of use to my family, and to the other people around me. At least I am moving, stumbling upward, under the load I have determined to carry.”

Monday Reflections

“If a child has not been taught to behave properly by the age of four, it will forever be difficult for him or her to make friends.”(Share this on Twitter)

“Tyranny feeds on lies.” (Share this on Twitter)

“There’s some real utility in gratitude. It’s also good protection against the dangers of victimhood and resentment.”

This Week On The Podcast

The War on Western Culture | Jordan Peterson & Douglas Murray |  The Jordan B. Peterson Podcast | #247

This episode was recorded on November 11, 2021.

In this episode, Douglas Murray and I discuss the current assault on the West, slavery, ancestry, racist math, whiteness, (non-Western) accomplishments, and individual sovereignty.

Dr. Jordan B. Peterson:

“It's also very different to say that institutions are corrupted or tempted by the willingness to use power, the motivation to use power. And that one of the manifestations of that is various forms of arbitrary oppression and to claim that that's the central guiding principle of the institutions and the societies. And then that also begs the question, well, if you criticize the west, let's say, for its grounding in willingness to use arbitrary power and compulsion. What do you propose as an alternative and why do you believe that alternative exists?”

Douglas Murray:

“I don't think it's sustainable to continue to war on ourselves and on every part of our own history, not least also because we deserve the right to have heroes and heroic narratives and things of which we're proud. We absolutely have that right, as every other society in the world does.”

How to Organize Your Life for Success | Jordan B. Peterson

Dr. Peterson:

"The right way to deal with your neuroticism is to increase your conscientiousness because we also know that the higher your conscientiousness, the lower your neuroticism. Conscientiousness does seem to keep neuroticism in check, so I would say and have said this: clean your room and organize your life like a routine. Get up every day and go to bed at the same time. Don't use your schedule as a tyrant. You want to use your calendar as your confidante and advisor."
