Hi John,
We all remember when Republican lawmakers walked out to kill climate action in Oregon–how frustrating it was to see politicians walking out on their jobs, even leaving the state, and not being held to the same standards as the rest of us. By refusing to show up for work, Republican lawmakers denied quorum and prevented groundbreaking climate legislation from passing–in 2019 and 2020. They brought the legislative session to a standstill, and refused to do the jobs they were elected to do, killing incredibly important bills like the Clean Energy Jobs bill, and bills to provide wildfire relief, prevent gun violence, fund public schools, and more.
It’s time to make a change and hold our lawmakers accountable. It’s time to ensure our democracy is not held hostage every time Republican lawmakers don’t get their way. OLCV is supporting a petition that will help get this issue on the ballot this fall–will you sign it? The measure will ensure that any politician who has ten unexcused absences from the job they were elected to do won’t be able to run for re-election. Ten strikes, and you’re out!
There are just three easy steps to sign the Hold Politicians Accountable petition:
1. Go to [link removed] and click ‘Download and Sign the Petition.’
2. Print out the form, fill it out, and sign it.
3. Mail the form to Hold Politicians Accountable P.O. Box 8338 Portland, OR 97207.
Please sign the petition today so we can get this on the ballot this fall! It’s past time that we hold our lawmakers accountable for showing up to work. The deadline to send in your signature is May 10th, so please don’t wait too long. We can’t do this without you!
Thank you,
Lindsey Scholten
