John,

With Donald Trump off the ballot and out of office for the first election
in six years, it’s easy to overlook the fact that he’s raising millions of
dollars to help Republicans reclaim control of Congress while setting the
stage for his next run in 2024.

Trump’s PAC, the Save America Joint Fundraising Committee, brought in a
whopping $19 million during the first quarter of the year. Additionally,
his Super PAC, Make America Great Again, Again! Inc., (I know, I think
it’s ridiculous too) brought in $4.3 million. He has over $122 million
cash on hand. And Trump's using that money to tour the country — he’s
already held a half-dozen campaign-style rallies for his handpicked
candidates to rev up the MAGA base.

In many respects, despite being off the ballot and out of office, Trump is
the Republican Party. Candidates run their campaigns not in the hopes of
being noticed by their voters — but to be noticed by Trump. An audience of
one.

Some Republicans have run ads out of state just to make sure they are
broadcast on Fox News in South Florida, beaming into Trump’s television at
Mar-a-Lago. Many others have come to beg and grovel at his feet for an
endorsement, knowing it could turn the tide of their far right Republican
primary elections.

This is all part of Trump’s plan to help the GOP take back control over
Congress, so that when he runs for president in 2024, he’ll have
Republican majorities to overthrow the results of the election in his
favor.

Trump and the GOP are cold-blooded and calculated when it comes to the
2022 midterm elections. From passing voter suppression laws to radically
gerrymandered districts, Republicans know exactly what they’re doing.

So we have a job to do. We have to defend American democracy. Protect the
House and Senate. Because we cannot, under any circumstances, cede power
to the likes of this GOP — a party without a conscience and without
devotion to democracy. One that subjects itself to the whims of the worst
president this country has ever seen. John, this is why I have
to ask:
