A lot of people think that working in politics is glamorous and full of intrigue.

But here’s the reality, friend:

The reality is strategically placing buckets to catch rainwater because the roof is leaking. It’s firing up the space heater in April because there’s no insulation on this side of the building.

And it’s still showing up every day despite all of the challenges because electing people who reflect and fight for their communities is worth it.

The Iowa Democratic Party headquarters isn’t a shiny downtown skyscraper filled with faceless worker bees – it’s a bunch of scrappy, ordinary people who want to make life better for working Iowans crammed into a squat little building and dotted throughout the state.

But scrappy, ordinary people coming together to fight for a better future have done incredible things, against incredible odds. And Iowans have a soft spot for the underdog.

(This is the part where I’d normally do a big spiel, but honestly, my ask is just that I would really love for it to stop raining in my office, so I can stop hunting down buckets and get back to laying the groundwork for a victory in November.
