John, we’ll be honest — this is not the news we wanted to share:
At the beginning of his presidency, President Biden issued an executive order banning new oil and gas leasing. But now, he’s turning back on that by giving yet another handout to the fossil fuel industry.
With families already paying the price of decades of fossil fuel dependence, we can’t afford any more excuses or inaction from this Administration.
The reality is simple: President Biden promised to make the climate crisis a top priority, but despite protests from Indigenous and environmental activists, he’s failed to stop drilling on public lands.1
Black, brown and Indigenous peoples are disproportionately bearing the brunt of new fossil fuel extraction, pollution, and extreme weather. Frontline communities are calling on Biden to use his executive authority to ban new fossil fuel leases on public lands.
If Biden truly wants to help families and communities, he MUST use his executive authority to end the federal approval of new fossil fuel leases and deploy major investments to deliver 100% renewable energy for all.
Until he takes these steps, he is telling the American people that the fossil fuel industry’s profits are more important than the health and safety of our families and communities.
We need President Biden to hear our demands. Can you sign the petition to demand Biden stop new leases and keep fossil fuels in the ground?
Thank you, John, for taking this important action today.
In solidarity,
Team 350
