For the first time, governments have come forward with specific targets that keep global warming below 2 degrees. But plans will mean nothing if they’re not followed up with action.
John,
We have some good news on climate change: if Paris Agreement signees continue to stay on track with their promises, our Earth will hit just below 2 degrees Celsius of warming – which will avoid the most catastrophic climate change effects.
A new analysis published by Nature has tracked the impacts of 154 new or updated national commitments made since climate talks concluded in Glasgow last year. It finds that the long-term goals covered 75% of all global greenhouse gas emissions and that immediate policy changes – like the Global Methane Pledge – will be instrumental in dropping our emissions by 2030 to reach Paris Agreement goals.
It’s easy to become discouraged by the state of our climate, but this latest report shows that global action can mitigate the worst impacts of climate change. For the first time, governments have come forward with specific targets that keep global warming below 2 degrees. But plans will mean nothing if they’re not followed up with action.
SEEC PAC members have always known that if we make good on our promises and hold ourselves accountable for our climate commitments, we have a chance to reverse this crisis. That’s why they’re fighting day in and day out to lower emissions, reduce the impact of extreme weather and eliminate pollution through environmentally sustainable policy.
Thanks to your help in 2020, SEEC PAC was able to re-elect over 95% of our pro-environment members to the U.S. House of Representatives — defying the odds on a night where Democrats lost seats. Now we are counting on you to help our SEEC members pass climate, clean energy and environmental justice policies in the 117th Congress while we undo the damage of the Trump Administration.
