I want to share a few words — from the inside — on the leader of the House Republican Party, Kevin McCarthy.

Here is the truth:

People like Kevin McCarthy enabled Donald Trump to come to power.

Trump feeds off of moral weakness. He smells it and uses it to his advantage. In my life, I’ve encountered a lot of hypocrites and have met none more obvious and morally weak than Kevin.

While I was showing my colleagues in Congress how to defend themselves if insurrectionists breached the chamber while the Capitol was under attack, Kevin was begging and pleading for Trump to stop the riots.

Weeks later, he was in Florida smiling and posing with Trump and has since blocked accountability for the attack on our democracy.

He watches the members of the Trash Caucus inside his party — Cawthorn, Boebert, Taylor Greene and more — spread lies, disinformation, racism, xenophobia and conspiracy and refuses to act.

Kevin looks squarely at people causing great damage to our country and to our democracy, and then looks behind him at the MAGA, Q-Anon base of the Republican Party and chooses cowardice.

All in the pursuit of the facade of power that could be taken away in an instant if it humored Trump enough.

Kevin McCarthy’s refusal to act in America’s interests is why Democrats must hold the House this year, and why I am working so hard to make sure we do.

So please:

Make a $3 contribution to my re-election campaign and I will put it to work helping Democrats in Arizona and across the country retain our majority. The perspective of a Latino veteran is powerful in a lot of these close races, and this is a top priority for me this year.
