The Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorist group just hosted a media tour to unveil a sophisticated, new “tunnel city” beneath Gaza, which it is planning to use in future attacks against Israel.
Members of the press were given a tour of the hidden tunnels and shown demonstrations of masked terrorists carrying machine guns, grenade launchers, and other weapons in and out of the tunnel network.
Reporters noted the tunnels were not just dirt holes but complete with electric lights, a ventilation system, communications cables, and rooms for storing weapons and ammunition.
An Islamic Jihad official guiding the tour said:
The tunnels can be “used for taking Israeli soldiers captive, repelling Israeli ground offensives and carrying out various field operations.”
Israeli commanders, who last year destroyed tunnels being used during Hamas’s 11-day attack against Israel, said they fear terrorists could use such tunnels to seize Israeli personnel or civilians to use as bargaining chips in prisoner exchanges.
