In 2008, Melissa was sentenced to death in Texas for the murder of her 2-year-old daughter Mariah who died two days after a tragic fall down a flight of stairs. Melissa was taken into police custody and immediately blamed for her daughter’s death.

During her interrogation, she asserted her innocence more than 100 times, but the police continued to aggressively question her using coercive tactics until she falsely admitted responsibility for some of Mariah’s injuries. The interrogating officers refused to hear the truth: that Melissa did not, and would not, ever hurt her children. Melissa’s words were misconstrued as a confession and used against her at trial.

In order to keep Texas from executing an innocent woman, we need as many people as possible to speak up about Melissa’s case. And we are running out of time to make this happen.
